Willkommen auf Santorini, die Insel des berühmten Vulkans, die Insel der atemberaubenden Aussichten der Caldera, und der schönsten Sonnenuntergängen auf Erde(!).
Der moderne Name ist eine freie Übernahme des fränkischen "Santa-Irina", wahrscheinlich aufgrund der Basilika St. Irene, die in jenen Jahren in Perissa stand.
Die Insel, die in der Antike den Namen Strogyli hatte (griechisch für "die runde"), die aber nach dem großen Vulkanausbruch im Jahre 1613 v.Ch. nur ... halb-rund blieb, wurde zunächst im 9. Jahrhundert vor Christus von Dorer (altgriechischer Stamm) besiedelt deren Feldherr Thiras hiess. Daher auch der spätere Name, Thira.
Nach der Eroberung Konstantinopels durch die berühmtesten Räuber jener Zeit, (in West-Europa als Kreuzritter bekannt), kamen auch nach Santorini die Franken und später die Türken.
Heute ist Santorini eines dieser Ziele, die man in seinem Leben besucht haben sollte.
Wenn Sie schon soweit sind, und auf der Suche nach ein Hotel sind, ein kleiner Tipp: Fira liegt zentral und bietet reichliche Auswahl an Clubs, Bars und sonstige Möglichkeiten für Ihre nächtliche Unternehmungen. Die Hotels hier sind etwas teurer aber der Ausblick ist einmalig!
Zum Schwimmen, sollte man lieber zu den Stränden von Kamari oder Perissa, wo die Hotels in der Regel etwas günstiger zu bekommen sind.
Wenn Sie es lieber etwas ruhiger und romantischer haben wollen, dann sollten Sie wahrscheinlich Oia für Ihren Aufenthalt wählen ...
